According to a new report from Chinese tech site IT Home, Apple has allegedly started production of its second-generation Vision Pro headset. The so-called Vision Pro 2 is expected to be ready for launch by late 2025 if these rumors are accurate. One of the most notable leaked details is that Apple might equip the next Vision Pro with an M5 chip — a significant upgrade in processing power compared to the M2 chip in the first-generation model. An M5 chip could provide the headset with much improved performance and efficiency, potentially enabling more advanced graphics and longer battery life.

Rumors of a fast follow-up

Aside from the possible silicon upgrade, not much else is known yet about Vision Pro 2. The first Vision Pro only began rolling out in early 2024, so it’s striking that Apple is already preparing its successor for the following year. Industry analysts speculate that the second-gen device could also bring a lighter design, better comfort, or other refinements (such as even sharper displays), but the IT Home report did not detail any design changes beyond the chip. As with all early Apple supply chain rumors, these details should be taken with caution. However, the prospect of a Vision Pro 2 in development — bolstered by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo’s prediction of an M5-powered headset around 2025 — suggests Apple is committed to rapidly iterating on its spatial computing platform and staying ahead in the AR/VR space. For Apple’s biggest fans (and savers), it might be time to start budgeting all over again.
